Ponsse Initiates EU-Funded ExtendedLIFE Project in Finland
Ponsse launches the ExtendedLIFE project to enhance the refurbishment and recycling of forest machine components, with a total budget of EUR 5 million, 60% of which is covered by the EU's LIFE Programme. The establishment of a Refactory in Iisalmi aims to double the service life of key components and improve material efficiency, contributing to sustainability goals.

Ponsse's ExtendedLIFE project focuses on extending the service life of forest machine components through refurbishment and recycling, supported by a EUR 5 million budget, primarily funded by the EU. A Refactory will be set up in Iisalmi by 2026 to facilitate the industrial-scale refurbishment and recycling of used machines.
The initiative aims to enhance existing circular economy processes and has already resulted in 222 tonnes of refurbished spare parts by 2025. Additionally, the project will develop a digital marketplace for remanufactured components and provide training for stakeholders in circular economy practices. The initiative is expected to boost employment in Iisalmi, particularly in machine dismantling and installation roles.
