Port Newark is advancing with a $1 billion expansion that includes the purchase of 35 hybrid-powered straddle carriers and 54 near-zero-emission yard tractors, totaling $100 million. Plans involve a $197.6 million reconstruction of two public berths and a $51 million investment from the U.S.
Army Corps of Engineers to accommodate larger vessels. The terminal will also see the addition of a deeper rail yard and potential shore-side power systems to aid in reducing air pollution. Current discussions are ongoing to ensure compliance with the Port Authority's zero emissions policy.
