Portugal Seeks to Cut Energy Dependency with Biogas Initiative by 2030

Floene plans to substitute 9% of the fossil gas used in Portugal with biometano by 2030, utilizing agricultural and urban waste. The company has already secured 18 contracts for biometano and estimates it can reach 2.7 TWh of production, contributing to the national energy goals.
Investments of €407 million are proposed for the gas distribution network from 2027 to 2031, focusing on maintenance rather than expansion. However, the GEOTA has criticized these plans, arguing they could increase dependency on fossil fuels and financial burdens on consumers.
