PowerLight Demonstrates Laser Power Beaming for Military Drone at Pentagon Tests
PowerLight Technologies successfully tested its laser power beaming system, enabling a military drone to fly for hours. This innovation could transform drone operations by eliminating the need for refueling or recharging during missions.

PowerLight Technologies has successfully demonstrated a laser power beaming system that sustained a KHA K1000ULE drone in flight for hours during tests for the Department of Defense. Conducted at Shaw Air Force Base, S.C., the tests were part of a $270 million contract with the AFCENT Battle Lab and involved the U.S.
Central Command. The system enabled the drone to receive power while tracking and focusing the infrared laser beam in real time at altitudes up to 5,000 feet, marking a significant advancement in wireless power delivery for military applications. The implications of this technology may extend to counter-drone strategies and enhance operational capabilities across various platforms.
