George Stassis, President and CEO of PPC Group, presented the company's energy transition strategy at the World Economic Forum Annual Meeting 2026 in Davos, Switzerland. Stassis highlighted PPC's complete shift from lignite to clean energy, with lignite production dropping from 35% to zero by year-end.
The transition is supported by one of Europe's fastest decarbonization programs and the development of a holistic clean energy system in Southeastern Europe. Stassis emphasized that renewable energy sources are now the most competitive and must be integrated with flexible solutions like batteries and natural gas units to ensure supply security and drive decarbonization. He noted that former lignite sites are strategic assets, providing existing infrastructure and skilled labor for the transition.
