PPL Corp. and Blackstone Invest $40.4M in Luzerne County Land for Power Plants
PPL Corporation and Blackstone Infrastructure have invested $40.4 million in over 500 acres across Luzerne County for potential power plant development. This initiative aims to address increasing electricity demand driven by data center expansion in Pennsylvania.

PPL Corporation and Blackstone Infrastructure have combined to spend $40.4 million for land acquisitions in Jenkins, Plains, and Salem townships. The joint venture, operating under Phoenix PA Land Holdings LLC, focuses on evaluating opportunities to build natural gas power plants to support the growing electricity needs of data centers.
The acquisition includes more than 400 acres in Jenkins and Plains townships for $27.75 million, and an additional 140 acres in Salem Twp. for $12.66 million. Both sites are strategically located near existing power plants.
Demand for new generation facilities is increasing due to the retirement of older plants and the expansion of data centers. The venture was established in July 2025, with PPL holding a 51% stake and Blackstone 49%. Potential risks include regulatory hurdles and market competition.
