PPL Electric Utilities plans to upgrade its transmission infrastructure in Lackawanna County, coinciding with a proposed data center campus. An open house is scheduled for March 31, 2026, at the Throop Community Civic Center.
The upgrades will include a new substation, switchyard, and transmission lines to enhance reliability and support new customer connections. The project is set to start in summer 2027 and conclude by summer 2030, subject to Pennsylvania Public Utility Commission approval.
The 230 kV transmission lines will run through Archbald, Jessup, Olyphant, and Jefferson Township. PPL will begin negotiating easements with landowners post-open house.
