Pre-Bankruptcy Proceedings Initiated for Toplana as Zenica's Heating System Faces Uncertainty
The Municipal Court in Zenica has received a proposal to commence pre-bankruptcy proceedings for Toplana d.o.o. Zenica, which could impact the district heating system for tens of thousands of residents. This follows operational issues at Nova željezara Zenica, raising doubts about energy supply continuity and heating costs.

Pre-bankruptcy proceedings for Toplana d.o.o. have been proposed, jeopardizing the district heating system in Zenica. The heating system has depended on energy sources from Nova željezara's production, and its shutdown raises concerns about the entire operation's viability.
If bankruptcy is confirmed, existing contracts for energy delivery may become void, threatening service for residents. A transition to natural gas could lead to increased costs, with warnings indicating an extra 35 million BAM for one heating season.
Furthermore, the city’s outdated distribution network requires significant investment for reconstruction, estimated at 70 to 80 million BAM. Legal actions against JP Grijanje for damages further complicate the situation, leaving uncertainties about heating availability and pricing for the upcoming winter.
