Pronghorn Shifts to Solar and Wind Project in Converse County, Eliminates Hydrogen Component
Pronghorn has revised its energy project in Converse County, scaling down its hydrogen extraction plans to focus solely on wind and solar energy generation. The updated initiative, which eliminates hydrogen production to reduce water requirements and address community concerns, aims to connect to the energy grid and will begin formal permitting in 2026, including public engagement sessions. This shift reflects the growing demand for low-cost electricity in Wyoming while minimizing environmental impact.

Pronghorn has scaled down its hydrogen extraction project to 30% of its original size, now focusing exclusively on wind and solar energy generation in Converse County. The revised project, announced on January 28, will not include hydrogen production, which significantly reduces water needs and addresses community concerns.
The updated plan aims to connect to the energy grid, with a smaller geographic footprint that avoids sensitive cultural and environmental areas. The project is designed to meet the increasing electricity demand in Wyoming and is expected to start formal permitting in 2026, including public information sessions to engage with stakeholders. Pronghorn representatives indicated that these modifications reflect the need for more low-cost electricity sources in the region.
