Public Relations Crucial for Technology Adoption in Nigeria's Digital Agriculture
Maryam Abdullahi from NCAIR emphasizes the need for public relations to bridge the gap between available digital agricultural tools and their adoption by farmers in Nigeria. She identifies barriers such as limited awareness, fear of complexity, mistrust, and infrastructure issues that hinder technology uptake. Abdullahi advocates for a communication strategy to enhance understanding and trust, proposing a five-point framework to transform the agricultural sector.

Maryam Abdullahi of the National Centre for Artificial Intelligence and Robotics argues that despite technological advancements in agriculture, Nigeria faces a significant gap between technology availability and farmer adoption. Factors such as limited awareness in rural communities, complexity in messaging, mistrust among less tech-savvy populations, and infrastructure challenges impede progress.
Abdullahi stresses that these are communication issues, not technical ones. She outlines a five-point framework to enhance digital agriculture in Nigeria, which includes improving rural infrastructure, strengthening agricultural training, institutionalizing PR in policy initiatives, creating multilingual awareness campaigns, and ensuring consistent policy messaging.
