Puerto de Guaymas to Triple Capacity with 131 Billion Peso Private Investment
A private investment of 131 billion pesos will expand and modernize Puerto de Guaymas, increasing its capacity from 12 to 36 million tons and allowing it to accommodate 12 vessels simultaneously. The project, which includes the construction of a liquefied natural gas terminal by Amigo LNG, aims to create 360 direct and 11,000 indirect jobs while supporting Mexico's energy security and regional economic growth. Additionally, the initiative features the establishment of an artificial reef to promote marine biodiversity and sustainable tourism.

A private investment of 131 billion pesos will facilitate the expansion and modernization of the Puerto de Guaymas. The project includes filling 168 hectares for specialized terminals to handle large mineral shipments, general cargo, and containers.
It will expand the port's capacity from 12 to 36 million tons and accommodate 12 vessels simultaneously with a draft of -16 meters. Key stakeholders include Grupo México, Hapag Lloyd, and Mitsui. Amigo LNG is investing 130 billion pesos in a liquefied natural gas terminal, creating 360 direct and 11,000 indirect jobs.
Construction for the LNG terminal will start in March 2026, with operational goals set for 2028. The initiative aligns with the Sonora Sustainable Energy Plan, aiming to enhance Mexico's energy security and regional economic growth. The project also includes the establishment of an artificial reef with the sinking of the Cabo Corriente ship, promoting marine biodiversity and sustainable tourism.
