Puget Sound Energy Proposes 30% Electric Rate Increase from 2027 to 2029
Puget Sound Energy seeks a 29.32% increase in electric rates and a 19.83% increase in gas rates for residential customers from 2027 to 2029. A typical electric customer using 800 kWh per month would see monthly bills rise by about $51 by 2029, while gas customers would pay an additional $23. The Washington Utilities and Transportation Commission will review the proposal, which is influenced by infrastructure improvements and compliance with clean energy legislation.

Puget Sound Energy (PSE) has filed a request with the Washington Utilities and Transportation Commission to increase electric rates by 29.32% and gas rates by 19.83% over the next three years. A typical electric customer using 800 kWh per month would see an increase of approximately $51 by 2029, while a natural gas customer using 64 therms per month would pay an additional $23.
This follows prior rate increases of 23.5% for electric and 17.6% for gas from 2025 to 2026. Factors for the proposed hikes include infrastructure investments totaling $3.2 billion and compliance with Washington's clean energy laws, which mandate that by 2030, 80% of electricity must come from renewable sources. The UTC will conduct an 11-month review of the proposal.
