Qatar Central Bank Issues $632.2 Million in Ijara Sukuk, Oversubscribed at $1.92 Billion
Qatar Central Bank (QCB) issued Ijara Sukuk worth QAR2.3 billion (approximately $632.2 million) on behalf of the Ministry of Finance. This issuance reflects the growth of Qatar's sovereign debt market, focusing on Shariah-compliant financial instruments.
The issuance comprised two tranches of QAR1.150 billion each, with maturities of three and five years, both yielding 4.150 percent. The issuance attracted bids totaling around QAR7 billion ($1.92 billion), indicating strong investor confidence and an oversubscription by more than three times.
This demand primarily came from local and regional Islamic banks and investment funds. The issuance is part of Qatar's strategy to enhance market depth and support local currency development, while recent projections indicate an average real GDP growth of 5 percent from 2026 to 2028, driven by the North Field LNG project and a growing non-hydrocarbon sector.
