Qatar's 747-8i Test Flights Begin as Interim Air Force One for Trump
The U.S. Air Force has initiated test flights for the 747-8i donated by Qatar as an interim Air Force One. This aircraft, designated VC-25B Bridge Aircraft, is expected to be operational by summer 2026 while awaiting the delivery of two fully equipped VC-25B aircraft from Boeing, projected for mid-2028.

The U.S. Air Force is conducting test flights on the VC-25B Bridge Aircraft, a 747-8i gifted by Qatar, with operational status expected by summer 2026. This aircraft will serve in place of the delayed VC-25B Air Force One jets from Boeing, which are not projected for delivery until mid-2028.
Current modifications to the aircraft include enhanced communications systems, although there are concerns regarding its defensive capabilities compared to legacy Air Force One models. Questions remain about the aircraft's operational limitations and necessity, given its reported conversion costs nearing $400 million. The urgency to deploy this aircraft reflects pressures from the White House amid ongoing delays in the primary aircraft program.
