Québec Faces Challenges in Critical Mineral Project Development Amidst CAD 3.5 Billion Support
Despite CAD 3.5 billion allocated by the federal Ministry of Natural Resources for mining developments, many projects in Québec are stalled. The need for improved regulatory frameworks is critical for attracting foreign investment in the mining sector.

The federal Ministry of Natural Resources has committed CAD 3.5 billion to foster new mining initiatives in Québec, yet numerous projects remain in the study phase. NMG is expected to make a decision soon regarding a graphite mine in Saint-Michel-des-Saints, alongside a processing plant in Bécancour, with an anticipated production start in 2028.
Administrative delays have been cited as a significant barrier to project advancement, contributing to Québec's ranking as the 22nd most attractive mining investment location for two consecutive years. The province's remote areas present challenges for infrastructure access, increasing overall project costs. Enhancing the regulatory environment will be essential for attracting the foreign investment necessary for large-scale mineral projects.
