Rajasthan HC Approves Land Acquisition for Forward Composite Aviation Base in Sriganganagar

DEFENSE

The Rajasthan High Court has approved land acquisition for the Forward Composite Aviation Base (FCAB) in Sriganganagar district, aimed at enhancing national security and the Indian Air Force's capabilities near the Pakistan border. The court dismissed a petition from 58 farmers concerned about their livelihoods, stating that individual hardships must be weighed against public interest.

The Ministry of Defence and the state government argued that the Social Impact Assessment (SIA) was impartial and that no primary sources of livelihood would be affected. The project will cover 132.825 hectares, transforming the existing airstrip in Lalgarh Jattan village into a military base.

Although compensation concerns were raised, the government claims rehabilitation is unnecessary as none of the 162 affected farmers will be displaced. The implications for regional economic development remain uncertain, alongside the project's military significance.
