Rantoul's Chanute Air Force Base Sees Business Growth and Development Plans for 2026

DEFENSE

Rantoul's Chanute Air Force Base has achieved full occupancy of its structures for the first time since its closure in 1993. Village Administrator Scott Eisenhauer reported that various businesses, including Maverick Pipe and Buzard Pipe Organ Builders, have revitalized the site.

The base now hosts motocross events and paintball activities. In 2026, developments include the opening of Buzard, expansion of Maverick, demolition of former barracks, acquisition and renovation of Building 96 by a private entity, and ongoing growth from Flyover Film Studios.

Rantoul is also acquiring dilapidated structures to attract developers. The village is engaging with aviation and film industry stakeholders to capitalize on local interest and support future expansion, aiming to build a robust local film industry and community.
