Rauma Shipyard Commences Construction of Third and Fourth Pohjanmaa-class Corvettes for Finnish Navy
Rauma Marine Constructions has commenced the construction of the third and fourth Pohjanmaa-class corvettes for the Finnish Navy, continuing the Squadron 2020 project. With all four corvettes now under construction, the project is expected to generate approximately 3,600 person-years of employment in Finland. Additionally, RMC is preparing to build two icebreakers for the U.S. Coast Guard, projected to create around 2,000 person-years of employment, while expanding its workforce to support these initiatives.

On January 14, 2026, Rauma Marine Constructions (RMC) laid the keel of the third Pohjanmaa-class corvette and began construction of the fourth for the Finnish Navy, marking a significant milestone in the Squadron 2020 project. All four corvettes are now under construction at the Rauma shipyard.
The second corvette is nearing hull completion while the first was launched in May 2025. The direct employment impact of the project is approximately 3,600 person-years in Finland. Additionally, RMC is preparing to produce two icebreakers for the U.S.
Coast Guard, expected to create about 2,000 person-years of direct employment. The icebreakers are set for delivery in 2028. RMC is expanding its workforce from 300 to 400 employees to enhance capabilities for both corvette and icebreaker projects.
