Raytheon to Begin Production of PhantomStrike Radar for FA-50 and US Air Force Aircraft

DEFENSE

Raytheon is set to start rate production of the PhantomStrike lightweight fire control radar later this year, with pre-production deliveries already in progress to Korea Aerospace Industries for FA-50 light attack fighters ordered by Poland. The US Air Force will install the radar on its X-62 Variable Stability In-flight Simulator Test Aircraft (VISTA).

The PhantomStrike is designed with uncrewed platforms in mind and features a lower price, power requirement, and footprint compared to existing systems. It operates on 5.5kW of power and is significantly lighter due to air cooling.

Production of the radar is expected to begin in the first half of 2026, with potential contracts being discussed with buyers in Asia, Europe, and the USA. The radar is approved for direct commercial sales and is seen as a viable upgrade option for legacy aircraft, including F-16s.
