Redlands City Council Approves $961K Upgrade for Landfill Gas System
Redlands City Council approved up to $961,500 for a new landfill gas blower skid and flare for the California Street Landfill and Wastewater Treatment Plant during a meeting on January 20. The existing equipment fails to meet current efficiency and safety standards, releasing higher levels of pollutants like methane.
New federal and regional regulations necessitate stricter emissions controls than the current system can provide. The ultra-low-emissions flare system is designed to handle both landfill gas and wastewater digester gas while ensuring compliance with federal, state, and regional air quality requirements.
The South Coast Air Quality Management District issued a construction permit on September 3, 2024. The city issued a request for proposals on March 26, 2025, and awarded the contract to John Zink Company, LLC. Project completion is expected within 26 to 52 weeks.
