Reliable Robotics Completes FAA DAA Testing for UAS Integration
Reliable Robotics has finalized a contract with the FAA to conduct Detect and Avoid testing for uncrewed aircraft systems. The data collected will inform certification standards and enhance safety in the National Airspace System.

Reliable Robotics successfully completed flight tests under a contract with the FAA, aimed at validating Detect and Avoid (DAA) systems for uncrewed aircraft. The testing, conducted in collaboration with Virginia Tech's Mid Atlantic Aviation Partnership and supported by integration partners Sagetech, Collins, and uAvionix, focused on data collection in airport environments to aid in the development of UAS standards.
Key findings included the varying behavior of the ACAS X algorithm between en route and terminal airspaces, which is crucial for ensuring safety during takeoff and landing. The results will be shared with RTCA Special Committees to inform future DAA standards. The increasing market for uncrewed aircraft necessitates robust safety protocols, highlighting the importance of this testing initiative.
