On June 18, two workers fell into a 40-foot sewage tank at a BWSSB sewage treatment facility in Varthur, Bengaluru. As of now, rescue efforts have surpassed 21 hours, with one worker rescued and undergoing treatment.
The rescue operations, hindered by toxic gases like hydrogen sulphide and methane, involve NDRF teams and BWSSB officials working to mitigate hazardous conditions. A three-member committee has been formed by BWSSB to investigate safety measures in place at the time of the incident, with a report due by June 20. The outcome of the ongoing rescue and the investigation will determine further actions.
