Rheinmetall Launches Space and Satellite Business, Plans Joint Ventures and Satellite Production
Rheinmetall CEO Armin Papperger announced the company's new strategic business field in Space and Satellites, initiated to leverage military data. With a planned investment of €35 billion for military space by Defense Minister Boris Pistorius, Rheinmetall will establish satellite production in Neuss for SAR reconnaissance and communication satellites. A joint venture with ICEYE aims to launch the first reconnaissance satellite by Q3 2026, with contracts valued over €1.5 billion. The company also plans a military communication satellite system in partnership with OHB, estimated at €10 billion, with initial capability expected by 2029.

Rheinmetall has introduced Space and Satellites as a new strategic business field, focusing on military data from space. The initiative follows Defense Minister Boris Pistorius' plan to invest €35 billion in military space.
Rheinmetall will establish satellite production in Neuss for SAR reconnaissance and communication satellites and is exploring rocket launch partnerships. The company is involved in a joint venture with ICEYE, holding 60%, targeting the launch of its first reconnaissance satellite in Q3 2026, with contracts exceeding €1.5 billion. Additionally, Rheinmetall is working on the military communication satellite system SatCom BW Stufe 4, in collaboration with OHB, with costs estimated at €10 billion and initial capability by 2029.
