Rolls-Royce SMR Secures Contract for Three Small Modular Reactors in Sweden
Rolls-Royce SMR has been selected by Videberg Kraft to deliver three small modular reactors (SMRs) in Sweden, enhancing the country's nuclear capacity for the first time in over 40 years. This project will contribute an additional 1,500 MWe, meeting approximately 6% of Sweden's annual electricity needs and reinforcing the nation's energy security amidst growing industrial demand.

Videberg Kraft has chosen Rolls-Royce SMR to provide three small modular reactors (SMRs) on the Värö peninsula, marking Sweden's first new nuclear power station in over four decades. The agreement will add 1,500 MWe of clean energy capacity, which constitutes about 6% of Sweden's annual power consumption.
This development supports the country's escalating energy requirements and aligns with its energy security goals. Rolls-Royce SMR has also secured contracts in the UK and Czech Republic, enhancing its position in the European nuclear market.
The first reactor in Sweden is anticipated to be operational by the mid-2030s. The success in Sweden underscores Rolls-Royce's competitive edge in the SMR sector, which is experiencing increased global interest due to its scalability and lower emissions compared to traditional reactors.
