Rolls-Royce to Supply Mini Nuclear Reactors for Sweden's Energy Expansion
Rolls-Royce has secured a contract with Sweden's Videberg Kraft to deliver small modular reactors (SMRs), marking a significant shift in Sweden's nuclear policy after a 40-year phase-out. This move aims to enhance energy security and meet rising electricity demands, with the project expected to generate 1,500 megawatts of power by the mid-2030s.

Rolls-Royce will provide small modular reactors (SMRs) to Sweden's Videberg Kraft, a subsidiary of Vattenfall, as part of a plan to expand nuclear energy in the country. Sweden's decision to construct new reactors follows a 40-year hiatus, driven by the need for energy security post-Ukraine war.
The project aims to produce three reactors, with a combined output of 1,500 megawatts, targeted for operation by the mid-2030s. The selection of Rolls-Royce over GE Vernova was influenced by the company's supply chain capabilities and prior contracts in the UK and Czech Republic. This initiative could potentially reshape Sweden's energy landscape, as it seeks to balance its reliance on hydro and renewables amid increasing power demands.
