Romania Requests NATO Mission in Black Sea to Deter Russian Threats
Romania has called for a NATO mission in the Black Sea, named Black Sea Sentry, to enhance security against increasing Russian drone incursions from Ukraine. This initiative follows the launch of similar missions, including Eastern Sentry. Romania has faced over 10 drone incursions since the Russian invasion in 2022 and has amended its legislation regarding drone engagement. The presence of Russian activity highlights a significant information and surveillance deficit. Additionally, Cubic Defense is set to modernize Romania's live training capabilities in a contract with the U.S. Army.

Romania is advocating for a NATO mission in the Black Sea, termed Black Sea Sentry, to address the rising threat from Russian drone incursions, particularly from Ukraine. The country has recorded more than 10 such incursions since the Russian invasion began in 2022, prompting changes in legislation and troop deployments.
NATO has stated it will adapt the Eastern Sentry mission to enhance airspace security in Romania. In parallel, Cubic Defense has secured a contract to upgrade the Romanian Army's live training capabilities, ensuring better interoperability with NATO partners and modernizing existing training systems.
