Romania Seeks U.S. Financing for Nuclear Projects and Gas Corridor Development
Romania aims for U.S. investment in nuclear energy, focusing on the rehabilitation of existing reactors and new constructions. The development of a regional gas corridor is also a priority to reduce reliance on Russian gas, with emphasis on American LNG market entry.

Romanian President Nicuşor Dan indicated that the U.S. intends to finance nuclear energy projects in Romania, specifically the rehabilitation of reactor 1 and the construction of reactors 3 and 4 at Cernavodă. Romania is the first country where the World Bank plans to invest in nuclear energy, indicating strong financial backing for these developments.
Additionally, there are discussions about a regional gas corridor aimed at reducing dependence on Russian gas, with American LNG needing significant investment in regional ports. The success of these initiatives depends on sufficient demand from neighboring countries, including Moldova, Ukraine, and Hungary. Romania is positioned to benefit economically from these projects, including potential transit fees from gas transport through its networks.
