Romania's Defense Minister Raises Concerns Over Craiova Real-Estate Project Near Military Installation
Romania's Minister of National Defense Radu Miruta highlighted a real-estate project in Craiova obstructing the Carcea NATO radar due to a nine-storey apartment block built near ammunition depots without adhering to safety regulations. Despite a negative opinion from the Ministry regarding the project, it was later approved. Miruta announced nationwide checks on construction approvals near military sites and emphasized zero tolerance for violations.

Romania's Defense Minister Radu Miruta reported a real-estate project in Craiova that violates safety protocols by situating a nine-storey apartment block adjacent to ammunition depots. The Ministry of Defense had previously issued a negative opinion on the project due to non-compliance with legal distances.
However, the request was resubmitted and approved despite these issues. The building obstructs the radar trajectory of the Carcea military installation. In response, the Ministry initiated nationwide checks on construction approvals around military sites and is identifying personnel responsible for the change in opinion. Miruta asserted there will be zero tolerance for such violations.
