Rompetrol Energy Becomes Exclusive Operator of Petromidia Cogeneration Power Plant
Rompetrol Energy has become the exclusive operator of the Petromidia cogeneration power plant as of December 30, 2025, following the completion of works accepted by the Kazakh-Romanian Energy Investment Fund. The plant supports energy infrastructure modernization in Dobrogea and the Petromidia refinery, with the capability to supply surplus electricity to the National Power Grid (SEN).
The facility has produced approximately 150,000 MWh of electricity and 190,000 tonnes of steam since testing began. Final compliance was confirmed through a 28-day endurance test conducted in two phases.
The plant operates with two SGT-750 gas turbines, generating about 39 MWh of electricity each, using a mixture of natural gas and refinery gas. Rompetrol Energy has secured all necessary certifications, with commercial operations commencing after the license was granted in early December.
