RSAF to Upgrade C-130 Fleet and Radar Capabilities Amid Strategic Enhancements

DEFENSE

The Republic of Singapore Air Force (RSAF) will not retire its C-130 transport aircraft but will acquire second-hand C-130H models to replace older C-130Bs, ensuring operational capability for the next 15 to 20 years. Deliveries of the used aircraft have begun.

The RSAF is also acquiring four Boeing P-8A Maritime Patrol Aircraft for service in the early 2030s and F-35 stealth fighters by the end of 2026. Radar capabilities will be enhanced by replacing the 25-year-old Portable Search and Target Acquisition Radar with Saab's Giraffe 1X radar, improving detection of aerial threats, including drones.

The URO VAMTAC vehicle will enhance mobility and air defense coverage. The RSAF aims to transition into a next-generation defense force by 2040, with upgrades including the Hermes 900 unmanned aerial vehicle. Additionally, the RSAF is focusing on personnel development and the integration of AI in operations.
