Russia Allows Private Firms to Acquire Heavy Weapons for Industrial Defense
Russian authorities have authorized private companies to purchase heavy weaponry, including anti-aircraft systems and electronic warfare tools, to enhance defenses against increasing drone attacks. This initiative responds to rising concerns over Ukrainian drone strikes targeting key infrastructure in European Russia.

Private firms in Russia are now permitted to buy heavy weaponry, including anti-aircraft artillery and radar equipment, to protect industrial sites from drone attacks. This decision follows discussions led by President Putin with industrial leaders, highlighting the urgency of addressing the threat to critical infrastructure.
Regions in European Russia are forming mobile fire groups comprising reservists and volunteers to bolster defenses. Additionally, a Pantsir-SMD-E air defense system has been installed on the Nordstar Tower in Moscow, capable of targeting drones. The shift to allow private procurement of heavy weaponry reflects escalating security challenges and may lead to increased militarization of industrial sites.
