Russia Considers Halting Gas Exports to Europe Amid EU Sanctions and Market Strain
Russia is contemplating a halt to gas exports to Europe in response to the EU's impending ban on Russian LNG imports, which takes effect on April 25. As the EU tightens restrictions on Russian gas through 2027, Hungary has signed a deal with Slovenia to build a pipeline for LNG imports from Italy, aiming to diversify energy sources. The European Commission is also introducing measures to facilitate LNG imports amid rising concerns over potential gas supply shortages.

Russia is examining the consequences of possibly halting gas exports to Europe as the EU's ban on Russian LNG imports begins on April 25. Spokesperson Dmitry Peskov noted a lack of European interest in energy dialogue.
Hungary signed an agreement with Slovenia to construct a 115 km gas pipeline to import LNG from Italy, aiming to diversify energy sources. The EU's ban, effective March 18, will escalate restrictions on Russian gas imports under both short- and long-term contracts through 2027. The European Commission is implementing measures to ease LNG import rules amid concerns over gas supply shortages.
