Russia Delivers First Mi-28NE Attack Helicopter to Iran Amidst US Military Pressure
Iran has received its first Mi-28NE Night Hunter attack helicopter from Russia, part of a 2023 contract, amid increased US military pressure. This delivery coincides with rising American military deployments and public statements signaling preparations for direct attacks on Iranian military infrastructure.
Prior reports indicated the arrival of helicopters by January 2026, with the initial acquisition announced in November 2023. The Mi-28NE is designed for operations from prepared or unprepared sites and does not require permanent basing, making it operationally relevant as Iran anticipates potential strikes on air bases and missile sites. The helicopter features extensive armor and can be equipped with a variety of guided munitions, including up to 16 Ataka-V missiles and various types of bombs, with a maximum external weapon load of 2,100 kg.
