Russia Develops First 175 MW RITM-200 Reactor for Leningrad Nuclear Icebreaker
The Leningrad nuclear icebreaker will be equipped with two RITM-200 reactors, marking a significant advancement in nuclear marine technology. This development is crucial for enhancing icebreaking capabilities in Arctic regions, supporting increased maritime traffic and resource exploration.

Russia's Leningrad nuclear icebreaker will utilize two RITM-200 reactor units, with the first unit recently completing trial assembly, indicating readiness for shipment and installation. The second RITM-200 reactor is undergoing hydraulic testing to ensure its integrity under high pressure, with plans for trial assembly post-testing.
Additionally, the nation is constructing the Rossiya, a nuclear-powered icebreaker featuring two RITM-400 reactors, designed to navigate ice up to 14 feet thick. The RITM-200 reactors will also support small modular reactors and floating power units, demonstrating versatility in nuclear applications.
