Russia Enhances Plant No. 9 with European Machinery for Artillery Production

DEFENSE

Russia has expanded its Plant No. 9 in Yekaterinburg, enhancing production of artillery barrels and tank guns using European machinery. This upgrade addresses the rapid wear of artillery in Ukraine's combat and is supported by at least 22 Western-origin machines from various European countries and Taiwan.

Despite sanctions, modernization efforts have continued since 2016. Ammunition production figures show significant increases: 1.428 million 120 mm mortar rounds in 2024 and 1.961 million in 2025, and 1.558 million 152 mm artillery shells in 2024 rising to 1.717 million in 2025.
