Russia Exports €7.2 Billion LNG to Europe via Jamal Terminal in 2022

NATURAL GAS

In 2022, Russia exported liquefied natural gas (LNG) worth €7.2 billion to Europe through the Jamal LNG terminal, located on the northeastern tip of the Jamal Peninsula near the Barents Sea. This information comes from a report by the German NGO Urgewald.

The European Union has enacted new legislation that will prohibit the import of LNG purchased on spot markets starting in 2026 and gradually phase out pipeline gas imports by September 30, 2027. Despite this, the EU remains the largest importer of Russian LNG, with the Jamal terminal accounting for nearly 15% of total EU LNG imports. Of the 19.7 million tons of LNG exported from Jamal, over 15 million tons (76.1%) were sent to European ports, with France being the largest recipient at 6.3 million tons, followed by Belgium receiving 4.2 million tons.
