The two officials reviewed ongoing cooperation in the energy sector, including the supply of electricity and the construction of Turkey's first nuclear power plant, Akkuyu NPP. Long-term gas contracts with Turkish state company Botas are set to expire in 2025, but recent agreements have extended supplies into 2026.

Russia continues to be Turkey's primary supplier of natural gas, oil, and petroleum products. Deputy Prime Minister Alexander Novak and Energy Minister Alparslan Bayraktar met in Istanbul to discuss energy cooperation, emphasizing Turkey's role as a transit country and its goal to become a regional energy hub.
Current long-term contracts with state company Botas for 16 billion cubic meters of gas annually through Blue Stream and 5.75 bcm through TurkStream are set to expire in 2025. Turkey has extended expiring Russian gas supply contracts for one year. The TurkStream and Blue Stream pipelines are operational, and the Akkuyu nuclear power plant is under construction.
