Iraq's Defense Ministry confirmed the arrival of ten Russian Sukhoi fighter jets, stationed at military airfields in the southern region. Prime Minister Nouri al-Maliki's government purchased these jets from Russia and Belarus to counter ISIS threats, which have resulted in significant territorial losses for the Iraqi government since June 9.
Additionally, the Iraqi Air Force has received MI-35 and MI-28 helicopter fighters, further emphasizing the importance of these assets in anti-terror operations.
