Russia Supports Vietnam's Development with Focus on High Technology and Nuclear Energy Cooperation
Vietnam is entering a new development phase with support from Russia in areas such as digital transformation, cybersecurity, and nuclear energy, according to Russian Ambassador Gennady Stepanovich Bezdetko. The year 2025 marks significant milestones in Vietnam-Russia relations, including the 75th anniversary of diplomatic ties and the successful visit of Party General Secretary To Lam to Russia.
This visit resulted in 20 agreements across various sectors, enhancing cooperation. Economic ties include the GAZ automobile plant in Da Nang and increased tourism, with 590,000 Russian visitors reported in 2025.
Russia is focusing on structural projects in energy, industry, and pharmaceuticals while offering 1,000 scholarships to Vietnamese students. Scientific cooperation is also highlighted by the handover of a research vessel for East Sea surveys and advancements in the Vietnam-Russia Nuclear Science and Technology Centre. Ongoing discussions aim to finalize a new intergovernmental agreement on peaceful nuclear energy use.
