Russian Deputy Prime Minister Alexander Novak met with Aleksandar Vulin, chairman of Srbijagas, to discuss bilateral cooperation in the fuel and energy sector. Novak emphasized Serbia's importance as a key partner for Russia, highlighting the dynamic development of trade and economic ties.
The contract for Russian gas supplies to Serbia, which is set to expire at the end of March, has only been extended for the first quarter of 2026. Russia has been exporting natural gas to Serbia since 1978, with Gazprom as a key partner through Srbijagas.
In 2024, Serbia consumed 2.65 billion cubic meters of gas, mainly from Russia. Complications arise from the status of Russian investments in the Serbian energy company NIS, which is facing U.S. sanctions and is in the process of selling a controlling stake to Hungary's MOL, pending approval from authorities.
