Russian Occupation of Chornobyl: Involvement of Rosatom Personnel and Military Operations
On February 24, 2022, Russian forces seized control of the Chornobyl Nuclear Power Plant, aided by Rosatom employees. This occupation lasted five weeks, during which significant equipment was stolen, and 169 Ukrainian National Guardsmen were taken captive.

The Chornobyl Nuclear Power Plant was occupied by Russian forces on February 24, 2022, with Rosatom personnel assisting. Following the occupation, over $135 million worth of equipment was stolen, including a €6 million spectrometer.
During their time at the site, the Russians faced multiple challenges, such as power outages and radioactive contamination incidents. Notably, Nikolai Mulyukin, a Rosatom representative, played a pivotal role, allegedly coordinating the removal of equipment.
The occupation lasted until March 31, 2022, and the Russians took 169 members of Ukraine's National Guard captive. The implications of this occupation raise ongoing concerns about nuclear safety and the potential for similar scenarios at other facilities.
