Russia's Arctic LNG 2 Delivers First Cargo to China in 2023
Russia's Arctic LNG 2 plant delivered its first LNG cargo to China's Beihai LNG terminal, with the Buran gas carrier unloading the shipment after loading at a floating storage unit near Murmansk. Despite facing US sanctions, Novatek, which owns 60% of the project, aims for an annual output of 19.8 million metric tons. Production commenced in December 2023, with a total of 23 cargoes delivered to Beihai LNG since August 2022.

The first LNG cargo from Russia's sanctioned Arctic LNG 2 plant was discharged at China's Beihai LNG terminal. The Buran gas carrier loaded LNG on December 25 at a Saam floating storage unit near Murmansk.
The cargo was delivered to Guangxi via the Suez Canal due to winter restrictions on the Northern Sea Route. Arctic LNG 2, 60% owned by Novatek, targets an output of 19.8 million metric tons per year but faces challenges from US sanctions. Novatek began production in December 2023 and has delivered 23 cargoes to Beihai LNG since August 2022.
