RWE to Invest €35 Billion in Power Generation Expansion, Focusing on Gas in the US and Germany
RWE plans to invest €35 billion ($40 billion) from 2026 to 2031 to expand its generation capacity by 25 GW, increasing total capacity to 65 GW. The investment will focus on gas-fired power plants in the US, where €17 billion is allocated, and €9 billion for flexible generation in Germany. RWE aims for a significant growth in renewables, including offshore wind, onshore wind, and solar energy. The company expects adjusted earnings per share to rise from €2.48 to €4.40 by 2031.

RWE is set to invest €35 billion between 2026 and 2031 to expand its generation capacity by 25 GW to 65 GW, with a significant focus on gas-fired power plants in the US and flexible generation in Germany. The US investment of €17 billion aims to boost capacity from 13 GW to 22 GW, emphasizing gas peaking capacity.
In Germany, €9 billion is allocated for flexible back-up capacity, including hydrogen-ready gas plants. Offshore wind will see €2 billion investment, while onshore wind and solar in Europe and Australia will attract €7 billion. RWE expects adjusted earnings per share to rise to €4.40 by 2031.
