Saab Plans Increased Gripen Production Amid International Negotiations
Saab aims to produce 20 Gripen fighters annually by next year, driven by rising demand and ongoing negotiations with multiple countries, including Canada and Ukraine. The European Union is preparing a significant funding package to support defense modernization, which may impact future contracts.

Saab is targeting an annual production rate of 20 Gripen fighters, contingent on ongoing orders. The company operates production lines in Sweden and Brazil, with potential plans for Canada if a deal materializes.
Negotiations with Canada are intensive, as Ottawa considers purchasing Gripens alongside the Lockheed Martin F-35. Ukraine has expressed interest in acquiring up to 150 Gripens, contingent on EU funding support, with a €90 billion loan aimed at defense modernization.
Saab is also pursuing a deal in Peru, though the country has opted for U.S. F-16s. In related developments, France and Germany are progressing on the FCAS fighter project despite leadership disputes, with defense ministries instructed to continue negotiations.
