Saab Unveils First Two-Seat Gripen F for Brazilian Air Force
Saab has introduced the Gripen F, a two-seat fighter variant, for Brazil's Air Force, marking a key milestone in its 2014 contract for 36 aircraft. This rollout emphasizes Brazil's involvement in development, enhancing local aerospace expertise through extensive training programs.

On June 2, 2026, Saab rolled out the Gripen F, its first two-seat variant, designed to enhance combat training by integrating conversion training and operational capabilities. Brazil, as the launch customer, is set to receive eight Gripen F aircraft as part of a contract for 36 fighters, which includes 28 single-seat Gripen Es.
The Gripen F will undergo flight testing at Saab's Flight Test Centre in Sweden before delivery to Brazil, where it will be designated F-39F. This platform features independent cockpits for realistic mission training, allowing instructors to guide trainees effectively in high-threat scenarios.
Brazil's collaboration has resulted in extensive technology transfer, benefiting the local aerospace sector. The Gripen F also has orders from Thailand and Colombia, indicating a growing international market.
