Salem City Council to Review Grant for Gas Line Replacement and Solar Development
The Salem City Council will consider a grant for replacing 400 outdated gas lines and a proposal for solar development. These initiatives address safety concerns and renewable energy expansion in the city.

The Salem City Council is set to discuss a grant proposal aimed at replacing 400 outdated copper natural gas service lines, which pose risks due to corrosion and joint failure. The grant, sourced from the US Department of Transportation, aims to enhance system integrity and safety.
Additionally, the council will evaluate a solar development project on a landfill site, facilitating AC Power's due diligence for an interconnection agreement with Ameren. This includes a 24-month lease option with an initial payment of $1,500, leading to a negotiated rate of $19,000 per mega watt for the proposed 3 mega watt generation. The council will also renew employee health insurance without changes to co-payments or deductibles.
