The Salina Public Entities, in collaboration with the Kansas Department of Health and Environment (KDHE), are advancing cleanup efforts at the former Schilling Air Force Base. A significant milestone was achieved with the completion of work in the Plume B Soil Source Area, where contaminated soil was excavated, tested, and safely disposed of at the Salina Landfill.
The area was then restored with clean soil. Ongoing monitoring of groundwater and indoor air quality is in place to ensure public health safety. Additional remediation actions are planned to address remaining contamination, with efforts structured in phased approaches using suitable methods for each area.
