DEFENSE
Saronic Technologies is seeking to establish a $3.2 billion shipyard, named Port Alpha, at the Port of Brownsville to manufacture autonomous vessels. The company has applied for tax abatements from Cameron County, where the project site covers 4,387 acres.
The estimated property tax value is $2.7 billion. The facility aims to support military and commercial shipbuilding, potentially creating over 10,000 jobs. The county commissioners are set to review the tax abatement agreements on March 24.
Saronic recently secured a $392 million production contract from the U.S. Navy for autonomous vessels.
