Saronic Technologies Inc. has announced the establishment of a $3.2 billion shipyard at the Port of Brownsville, Texas, aimed at producing medium and large autonomous vessels. The initial site will span 800 acres, with potential expansion to 4,000 acres.
The project is expected to provide 10,000 jobs over a phased development, with construction slated to begin in 2028. Local incentives include $450 million in packages, alongside $211 million in tax abatements from Cameron County.
Saronic's technology gained attention recently when the U.S. Navy deployed its sea drones in combat, highlighting the strategic importance of this investment in autonomous maritime technology. The shipyard's success could significantly bolster Texas's position in the defense and maritime sectors.
