SaskEnergy Allocates $60 Million for Upgrade of Unity Compressor Station

NATURAL GAS

SaskEnergy has announced a $60 million renewal project for the 65-year-old compressor station in Unity, Saskatchewan, which serves as a crucial hub in the province's natural gas system. The upgrades will include four new high-efficiency compressor units, improved monitoring and safety systems, and an expanded footprint to enhance reliability.

This project is part of a broader investment strategy, with $176 million allocated for system growth and an additional $132 million committed for capital improvements between 2024 and 2025. The Unity station, which can move up to 230 terajoules of natural gas per day, is essential for maintaining system reliability and supporting local economic development. Planning for the project started in 2023, with site preparation in summer 2025 and installation of new units expected in early 2026, aiming for completion by November 2026 without service interruptions.
